Keel simulations and power supplies

This week the Mech team experimentally found the Young’s Modulus of carbon fiber beams to input into a SolidWorks Simulation.  The team then generated an accurate keel foil by inputting coordinate points into SolidWorks. Finally, the weight of the keel bulb was simulated on the end of several different keel foils that had different thicknesses. From this information, the Mech team could easily choose which thickness of the keel foil would give the keel an appropriate amount of deflection.

On the electronics side of the project we spent the Saturday morning making power supplies from an old computer ATX power supply. These will be a great addition for our workshop. Pretty cool project, check out the tutorial video on how to do it yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2oSFpKh_Uw
